Educational sector is one of the most vulnerable to risks of fire due to lack of specialized training in fire management, lack of appropriate Fire Fighting equipment, lack of adequate resources, lack of systematic disaster mitigation and response mechanisms. With the Government policy of 100% transition schools have had to grapple with high number of students against limited resources thus increasing the risk in the event of occurrence of fire or any other disaster. Many institutions have suffered from fire incidences and this could not have been the case if institution had early detection system coupled staff and students having valuable knowledge and skills to stop fire early enough before becoming full-blown fire.

Most of the fires in schools are either caused by accident due to electrical faults while others are caused by Students during strike as form communicating their grievances to the management of the institutions.
