The Building Code of Kenya details the physical aspects required in a building depending on the type of occupancy. Contractors are expected to ensure that buildings that comply with Building Code of Kenya in that there is adequate essential Safety Measures installed against the requirements of the building code of Kenya.

Real estate managers are expected to ensure that there is safe and secure environment at the estates that they manage, therefore fire protection system must always be functioning effectively. Maintenance of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment requires an annual survey to be conducted for specific fire protection systems (eg extinguishers, smoke control systems, occupant warning systems, etc). Fire survey is recommended at least once a year which assesses whether the fire protection systems performance capability has been degraded by building or occupancy changes, which could otherwise adversely affect the capability of the system to perform as originally intended.
